Physical Education is a sequential, developmentally appropriate educational program that provides students with the knowledge, skills, fitness, and attitudes necessary to lead a healthy lifestyle.

National Standard for Physical Education
Standard 1 Demonstrates competency in motor skills & movement patterns needed to perform a variety of physical activities Benchmarks:
1. Demonstrates ball skills, of throwing, catching and kicking with as they apply to various sports.
2. Applies movement patterns to age appropriate games and sports.
3. Applies movement skills in physically levels to age appropriate games and sports.
4. Demonstrates movement functions of four body parts in the context of a game or sport.
Standard 2 Demonstrates understanding of movement concepts, principles, strategies, & tactics as they apply to the learning & performance of physical activities.
Benchmarks:
1. Detects and corrects errors in personal performance when throwing catching or kicking in various sports/games.
2 Identifies proper warm-ups and cool-down techniques and explains the reasons for using them.
3. Understands the terminology, rules, tactics and strategies that can be played fairly by all students, including those with disabilities.
4. Identifies similarities in body positions when participating in multiple sports/games.
5. Identifies and describes basic principles of conditioning/training and how those concepts improve fitness..
Standard 3 Participates regularly in physical activity.
Benchmarks:
1. Demonstrates knowledge of a physical activity log for at least one month.
2. Consistently monitors his/her physical activity,using technology HRM or pedometer.
3. Regulates physical activity behavior by using cues(from technology devices) and movement principles.
Standard 4
Achieves & maintains a health-enhancing level of physical fitness
Benchmarks:
1. Knows and understands personal status of health assessments.
2. Demonstrates the capacity to engage in a series of locomotor activities for 240 seconds without tiring easily.
3. Self-assesses heart rate before,during and after vigorous physical activity.
4. Utilizes the results of Fitnessgram test to identify personal physical strengths and demonstrates the ability to create activities to improve areas in need of improvement.
5. Understands the health component or skill related component enhanced during different activities.
Standard 5 Exhibits responsible personal & social behavior that respects self, others & equipment in physical activity settings Benchmarks:
1. Demonstrates a concern for the safety of other participants and spectators while participating in games and sports.
2. Consistently makes responsible decisions regarding using time, applying appropriate rules and following through with the decisions made.
3. Consistently participates within the rules of the game or sport.
4. Recognizes the role of games and sports in getting to know and understand others of like and unlike backgrounds.
5. Respects and uses equipment in the appropriate manner.
6. Understands the role of helping others improve their level of effort and health.
Standard 6 Values physical activity for health, enjoyment, challenge, self-expression, and/or social interaction
Benchmarks:
1. Demonstrates ways to use body movements to communicate ideas and feelings.
2. Regularly utilizes physical activity as a positive opportunity for social and group interaction.
3. Actively seeks the opportunity to learn new physical activities and skills.
4. Accepts physical activities which require increasing physical challenges.
